Chrysler has unveiled a new cargo van based on the Dodge Grand Caravan minivan. The 2012 Ram Cargo Van, or C/V, was announced at the National Truck Equipment Association trade show in Indianapolis and will go on sale later this year.

The 2012 Ram Cargo C/V is powered by a new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that is mated to a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. The engine produces 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The C/V will also be able to haul a payload of 1,800 pounds and tow up to 3,600 ponds.

“We see growth in the Class 1 light commercial vehicle market,” said Fred Diaz, head of U.S. sales as well as the Ram brand. “With its class-leading capability and a lower total cost of ownership, the highly versatile Ram Cargo Van is a great vehicle choice for small businesses and commercial fleets.”
